Below are some of our frequently asked questions.
There are a few different types of fire extinguishers. We suggest that you go to your local hardware or home improvement store to select the proper extinguisher(s) for your home or business.
Residential smoke detectors are early warning devices to wake a sleeping person or persons. Smoke detectors should be placed in each bedroom (sleeping area), in the hallway leading to bedrooms, and in the kitchen.
A fire district is a political subdivision of the State, formed for the protection of persons and property in an area approved by the counties.
The District is governed by a five-member Board elected at large by the voters. Board members are elected to alternating four-year terms so at least two are elected every two years. The Board establishes policy and approves the annual budget.
The answer to this question is simple – better service. When you or your loved ones are having an emergency, it is important to receive care as quickly as possible. A fire engine responds with additional personnel to assist the paramedics on the ambulance in providing that care. Most of our personnel are also first responder paramedics. Firefighters respond to calls involving life-threatening symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, chest pains, and severe bleeding. They initiate treatment to stabilize patients and provide information to the paramedics en route to the call so they will be aware of any additional advanced life support equipment that will be needed on the scene.
The purpose of emergency warning equipment is to let drivers and pedestrians know that an emergency vehicle is on the way to an emergency. Emergency response vehicles do have certain privileges extended to us. Those being, to carefully proceed through controlled intersections and travel against the designated flow of traffic. These privileges have rules that the legislation and department policy put on the drivers of these emergency vehicles. The main rule is that even in the middle of the night, for public safety, we must have lights flashing and sirens sounding to alert any drivers or pedestrians of approaching emergency vehicles.
The fire hose is the lifeline of a firefighter when fighting a fire. If you drive over it, the hose can be damaged, and any firefighter at the end of a nozzle will have the water interrupted -- possibly causing injury or death.
Because the crews work a 24-hour shift, they must eat their lunch and dinner at the station. They combine their money to purchase food for meals. Often, you will see them at a grocery store in a fire engine. Sometimes they receive an emergency call while shopping for food, which means they leave directly from the grocery store to respond and have to come back later to finish their grocery shopping.
There are several requirements to comply with fire and safety issues. The Quartzsite Fire District covers these with its Vendor Requirements for Alternative Structures Document (CLICK HERE). We encourage you to contact the Fire Department and/or the fire inspectors for additional information.
